Our Commitment to Help Slow the Pace of Climate Change

As we start the new year, we are again taking the time to reflect on our commitment to climate change efforts. Climate change is the biggest environmental risk of this era, and as a global manufacturer, we strive to minimize energy use and emissions across our business. 的 气候行动 pillar 我们雄心勃勃的 二十by30 sustainability 程序 includes several goals designed to accelerate our progress in this area, including reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, increasing reliance on renewables and decreasing Volatile Organic Compound (VOC) emissions. Our GHG reduction targets have been approved by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) as consistent with reductions required to keep warming to 1.5°C, the most ambitious goal of the Paris Agreement. 

We are rigorously tracking our progress against our commitments and our 2021 可持续性 Report details the results achieved one year into the implementation of the 二十by30 程序. Some of the tangible advances we have made toward goals* in the 气候行动 pillar (as of December 31, 2021)包括:

Reduce Scope 1 GHG emissions, targeting a 50% combined reduction in absolute Scope 1 (fuel) and Scope 2 (electricity) emissions.

Reduce Scope 2 GHG emissions, targeting a 50% combined reduction in absolute Scope 1 (fuel) and Scope 2 (electricity) emissions.

 11% reduction in absolute Scope 1 and Scope 2 GHG emissions (22% of the way toward 程序 goal)
Source 75% renewable electricity by 2030 in accordance with our SBTi GHG goals and 100% by 2040.

30% of our total electricity use in 2021 was consumed from renewable resources (40% of the way toward 程序 goal)

Renewable power activated in 100% of beverage can plants in the U.S.美国、加拿大和美国.K.
Reduce VOC emissions by 10% per unit of product. 1.5% reduction in VOC emissions per unit of product (15% of the way toward 程序 goal).

* All goals are set against a 2019 baseline.

We are thrilled to report on this significant progress toward our ambitious goals, which contributes to our larger commitment to be carbon neutral by 2040. On the journey to net-zero we are focusing on enhancing production efficiency, product and process innovation, strategic material procurement and utilization of renewable electricity. This work is in line with our commitments to global industry initiatives, such as the Climate Pledge and RE100 – action groups uniting industrial players in fighting climate change.
